A namespace is a set of AP Wiki pages whose names begin with a particular reserved word recognized by the Mediawiki software (followed by a colon). For example, in the User namespace all titles begin with the prefix User:. In the case of the main namespace the reserved word and colon are absent. (Note: main space articles can optionally include a colon at the beginning with no reserved word, so [[Article]]
and [[:Article]]
are equivalent. This is usually only necessary for transcluding a main space article into another page.)
AP Wiki currently has 28 namespaces: 16 default namespaces, 8 extension namespaces, 2 custom namespaces, and 2 virtual namespaces. These are all listed in the box to the right. While surfing AP Wiki, a list of namespaces is available in two clicks: do an empty search, then click Advanced under the search box. The list also makes itself available where needed in the dropdown menus of Special:Prefixindex, Special:Allpages, Special:Recentchanges, and Special:Contributions.
The table on the right shows which number to use when you want to hide pages that are on your watchlist. See Wikipedia:Help:Hide Pages in Watchlist for details.
Default Namespaces
Default (and virtual) namespaces are built in through the Mediawiki software and cannot be changed. See Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Namespace for details on these.
Extension Namespaces
Extension namespaces are included as part of an installed extension.

Custom Namespaces
Custom namespaces are added to include features specific to this wiki.
Sandbox
The Sandbox: namespace is useful for trying out new features on a page before implementing them to the main namespace. Just add Sandbox: before any page title and make changes there until you reach the desired config.
Portal
The Portal: namespace is useful for creating pages that cover a broad topic and provide many links to useful pages in that topic.
GM
The GM: namespace is reserved for Game Masters (users with the GM permission) to view and edit content that is intended to be hidden from non-GM users.
This namespace is locked down using MW:Extension:Lockdown.
PC
The PC: namespace is intented to be used for player character pages. Since a PC is usually played by a single player, this namespace informs other users of the Wiki that this page should not be edited by them, as opposed to an NPC page which could be edited by anyone.
