Stuff that happened in years past
During the season of my first birthday, I got to partake in the Rites of Spark (or something), which is held seasonally for people that are growing up in the church, and desire to stay in it, to see where they would place best. While I was pious, I had trouble truly internalizing the messages of the holy books; that, compounded by my lack of magical talent but high amount of athletic strength and control, led me to begin the training process to join the guardians of the Light of Vix, Vix’ Fist.
While I have a practical knowledge of basic weapons (and a developed specialty in light ones), I never found them to be attractive in use in combat. After the end of the second season during my second year of life, I had the opportunity to choose to be trained in more styles of exotic weapons, since the mundane kind clearly did not make the cut. This is where I learned skills with the rope dart, an uncommon weapon among guardians. Most trainees had conventional group lessons after they chose their weapons, but there was only one other trainee that picked up the weapon with me. We became friendly rivals under our teacher.
While training with them, I continued both physical and spiritual development in somewhat sheltered living conditions.
After my second birthday, I underwent the Trials of Ascension, the guardians’ coming-of-age ceremony. It consisted of both physical and spiritual trials; I was nothing special, but I performed above average in both areas. I became a full-fledged Guardian!
One of my earliest missions was where I met Lamu. It was eye opening, showing me that there are all those overt evils I had d been told about, out in the open. I knew greed and envy were around, but I was not ready for the amount of anger those feeling spawned.
Response to what has happened so far
Dear Diary, This past week was veritably insane. It began with Lamu coming to me with the a quest from the Phoenix themselves, and ended with a bunch of us moored on a beach in Dacodryn (however it’s spelled). We have a diverse group of people that have joined us in this journey. From people we asked to come with us to those who we happened to pick up on our way, it is clear Vix is guiding us. Some of these new companions have interesting opinions on they way they glorify the pantheon. Its “enlightening” to see how other people react to the obvious blessings we are graced with. Xavier, in particular, is quite the vexing piece. He has proven to be an able guide as well as an interesting verbal-sparring partner. His unique words and perspective are like nothing they have in Xian. Gnanesh and Rin are also fun to have around; they are delightful travel companions. Yours, Alden
Diary, There are truly horrors about that seek nothing more than to harm those of Vix’s light, if not hide from it. Led by Xavier, we traveled to a guard station that had been infiltrated by a shape-shifting dream eater. It’s horrifying to learn of the horrors that hide in the chilled wastes up north. Each day we travel further into the cold, I can feel us going further and further from Vix’s embrace. I am anxious to learn of what macabre things await us, but I find myself somewhat excited to see what I have the chance to fight next? Yours, Alden
