Currency

From AP Wiki
(Redirected from Coin)

Currency is a consumable used as payment for goods and services. Mezia is a fragmented world, and there is no standard currency that is easy to use everywhere. Shiny coins and gems may have value to a collector, but to most folks they will be worthless. In many cases players will need to get creative in order to acquire items of value that can be traded for what they want.

Goods

Goods are items that have value based on their use. Relatively common goods in one place can be of great value to people in another place, especially if there are no reliable trade routes.

  • Food is an almost universally valuable good, unless the person being traded with has a surplus of food. Transporting food can be challenging as it may expire quickly.
  • Seeds are excellent goods, as they take up little space and won't expire quickly. Almost all communities will have some agriculture to feed themselves, so bringing seeds that will grow in the climate can result in favorable trades.
  • Livestock is another useful good, but has the obvious challenge of transporting live animals. The payoff can be huge though.
  • Materials for building are often bulky and heavy, making them difficult to transport, but there is little to no risk of them degrading quickly. Establishing a material trade route can be very lucrative if executed properly.

Gems & Precious Metals

Gems and precious metals are used in some more developed areas to represent value, especially among elites. These currencies are valued for their beauty and rarity.

Gems and precious metals have a relatively small size and do not expire. This makes them very useful for storing and transporting value, even though it can be more difficult to find someone who will accept them.

Contracts

A contract is an agreement to make a specific payment in exchange for something. Contracts rely on trust between all persons involved, so it can be difficult to transfer a contract.

Labor

In addition to using currency, characters can sometimes provide labor in exchange for goods.
