Illness is a condition with Health/Stamina Loss effects. Illness could lead to Unconscious, Haunt or Doom if left untreated.

Causes and Effects

Illness is caused by disease from bacteria, viruses, etc. Illness can happen in a variety of situations, and all characters in these situations roll to see if they get sick. Some situations in which illness could be rolled are:

  • Wading or swimming through dirty water
  • Eating or drinking spoiled food
  • Being around other sick people
  • Sleeping in an unsanitary location

Illness drains health and stamina every turn in combat and prevents health and stamina from naturally recovering out of combat.

Severity

Illness severity increases when the illness condition is applied to one who already has it, and decreases when one is healed. Illness severity also increases every time a sick character's fatigue increases (except if immediately recovered by resting).

At Severity 4 a character falls unconscious and gets the haunt condition which prevents them from recovering fatigue while unconscious. These conditions cannot be removed until the character's illness drops below Severity 4.

At Severity 5 the character also becomes doomed. Doom has a 24 hour trigger, and can be prevented if illness is completely cured.

Healing

Illness can be healed with a med kit, potions, or healing spells.
