The Three Little Gnomes is a children's story.
Once upon a time there were three little gnomes who set out to build a home for themselves.
First they moved to the forest where they built a house of wood. They chopped down some trees, cut them to size, and built a wonderful log cabin. They liked their new house so much they celebrated with song and dance all through the night.
The next morning, a young mage passed by and saw the gnomes' new home. This mage was big and mean and especially didn't like gnomes.
So he knocked on the door and said:
Little gnomes! Little gnomes!
Let me into your home!
I have a present for you!
And the little gnomes thought the mage was friendly, so they said:
Welcome! Welcome!
Come into our home!
We have breakfast for you!
But the mage was tricking them. He was not interested in being friendly or sharing breakfast, he only wanted to get rid of the gnomes. So he pulled out his wand and said:
House of wood to pile of soot!
In a flash your home is ash!
Fireball!
And launched a big fireball right into the gnomes' new home. The gnomes escaped but their wonderful log cabin burned down to a pile of ashes and the mage left, laughing all the way home.
The gnomes decided they needed to make a stronger house so the mage couldn't destroy it, and they agreed not to invite him in for breakfast anymore. They moved to the cliff where they built a house of stone. They carried big stones from the base of the cliff, filled the cracks with mortar, and built a wonderful stone house. They liked their new house so much they celebrated with song and dance all through the night.
The next morning, the young mage passed by and saw the gnomes' new home. He was still big and still mean and especially still didn't like gnomes.
So he knocked on the door and said:
Little gnomes! Little gnomes!
Let me into your home!
I have a present for you!
This time the gnomes knew the mage was trouble, so they said:
No! No! No!
Stay out of our home!
We want none of your presents!
The mage was angered that the gnomes wouldn't open the door and invite him to breakfast, now he really wanted to get rid of them. So he pulled out his wand and said:
House of stone is now in trouble!
Soon your home will be a pile of rubble!
Earthquake!
And shook the ground underneath their home so much the house broke apart into hundreds of little stones. The gnomes escaped but their wonderful stone house collapsed into a pile of rubble and the mage left, laughing all the way home.
The gnomes decided they needed to make an even stronger house so the mage couldn't destroy it, and they agreed to leave him a little surprise this time. They moved to the lake where they built another house of stone. They carried big stones from around the lake, filled the cracks with mortar, and built a wonderful stone house. Then they enchanted the whole house with a reinforcement spell, making it strong enough to resist even magical attacks. They liked their new house so much they celebrated with song and dance all through the night.
The next morning, the young mage passed by and saw the gnomes' new home. He was now even bigger and even meaner and especially didn't like gnomes even more.
So he knocked on the door and said:
Little gnomes! Little gnomes!
Let me into your home!
I have a present for you!
This time the gnomes were ready for the mage, so they said:
Ha ha ha!
You can't break our home!
Just give up now or we'll give you a present!
The mage was so angry that the gnomes were making fun of him. Now he really, REALLY wanted to get rid of them. So he pulled out his wand and said:
I won't allow any more homes!
Say goodbye, little gnomes!
Explosion!
And launched a big explosion at the house that shook all the water in the lake and all the trees in the forest and even echoed off the cliff. But the house was still there. The gnomes opened their door to confront the mage and said:
Now it's our turn to cast a spell!
And for you it won't turn out so well!
Whirlpool!
And the mage was sucked into the lake by a big whirlpool and left spinning and spinning until he got sick. When he was finally released he left the lake and didn't bother the gnomes from that day on.
And the gnomes were laughing all the way home.
